PRESENTATION

The motivation for creating this page on Acolhua-Aztec surveying is to have a place
to put together what is known until now about surveying in the Acolhua culture of the region of Texcoco. It is a space for presenting new results, discussing ideas and consulting related questions.

We have centered on the Acolhua culture because most of the mesoamerican documents related to surveying come from this culture and therefore most of the results obtained pertain to it. Also, most of the results have been published in English and in journals not easily obtained in southern latitudes.

The page includes the following aspects:

- Codices: Description of the Acolhua codices of Santa María Asunción and Vergara.
Link to a digital version of the first codex.

- Databases of the agricultural fields and name glyphs.

- Ethnohistorical references with a selection of the works we know on Acolhua surveying.

- Related mathematics. This section includes the Acolhua number system and its fractions,
the geometry of irregular polygons (with an interactive program to draw them and calculate their areas) and applications to the geometrical problems derived from the area computations
of the codices.
